Youth Leadership Oklahoma Program Overview

Investing in our youth is LOK’s most important task, as they are our state’s future leaders.  Youth Leadership Oklahoma (YLOK) was created in 2001 to entice our emerging youth leaders to stay in or return to Oklahoma.  Approximately 50 high school seniors are selected to take a weeklong educational journey across Oklahoma, learning lessons about leadership, trust, problem solving, communication, cooperation, and career opportunities. But most importantly, they learn why Oklahoma is such a great place to live and work. This program provides participants a sense of loyalty, inclusion, responsibility, and accountability. It also gives these youth an emotional attachment to the state, plus many incentives to positively impact its future.  LOK funds the YLOK program through the support of its donors, sponsors and friends, so the students selected are able to experience this program at no charge to them.  YLOK plants the seeds of effective leadership and service to communities, large and small, preparing these youth to be engaged citizens who are determined to be a catalysts for positive change in Oklahoma.
